Alex has been a member of the 6S community since 2018, and has been a wonderful addition to the 6S classes. She continues to demonstrate her strength and skill in 6SFit, and inspires us all with her hard work and dedication. Alex provides a supportive and positive spirit to each and every class she attends, and we are so gratetful to have her as part of the 6S fam! We can’t wait to see what you accomplish next!
Tell us about yourself.
I was born and raised in Mexico. My family and I moved to Canada when I was 12 years old. I moved to Toronto for grad school in 2017 and joined 6S a year later. I currently work in Finance.
What is one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?
I can speak Spanish.
How long have you been doing Functional Fitness? At 6S?
I’ve been doing functional fitness for 5+ years now, and I’ve been at 6S since the summer of 2018Why did you start functional fitness training? I started getting into long distance running while I was in university. When I was preparing to run a half marathon, someone advised me to add cross-training into my routine to further build on strength and cardio. I tried out a CrossFit class at one of my local gyms and really enjoyed it, so I started adding it into my routine more consistently.
What is your favorite workout?
Anything that is short, burpee-free and with built in rest.
What is your proudest 6S moment?
First strict pull-up!
What impact has 6S had on your life inside and outside the gym?
6S for me is my mental health break, it always helps to re-center me.
For someone just starting at 6S, what advice would you give them?
I think I would say to just keep showing up. Even though it may not feel like you’re getting better every day, you can start to feel the improvements over time.
What’s your biggest health & fitness goal right now? How close are you?
I am hoping to do a triathlon next year – still in the early stages of planning / preparing.
Other than 6S, what do you do for fun?
I play the piano, and like travelling and trying new restaurants around the city.
What was the best advice you were ever given?
One step at a time.
What book are you reading right now?
I am currently in a reading slump, but the last one I read was Elektra by Jennifer Saint.
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
I don’t really have a bucket list, but I definitely want to travel more especially in South America, Africa and Asia.
If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?
FlyingIf you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why? Paris, mainly because of the baguettes.
