Natalie is a great example of what hard work, dedication and fun looks like! She’ll challenge and push herself, but she always finishes with a huge smile on her face. Her positivity is contagious and we are so fortunate to have her at 6S!
Natalie – we are SO proud of you and how far you have come since you first joined! Thank you for bringing such a supportive and positive energy in the gym – we are all so lucky to have you!
Born and raised in the GTA, 25 years old and trying my best to be an adult! I’ve only moved downtown two years ago and am constantly trying to find ways to take advantage of the city life! I have been on a journey to learn to love myself and I try to practice self-care and mindfulness whenever I can. The first step towards this path was committing to a gym that motivated me and made me want to better myself!
What do you do for a living?
I work in marketing at a fintech company. I also run the social committee at my work!
What is one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?
I used to be a dancer – specifically a tap dancer!
How long have you been doing CrossFit? At CF6S?
I started my CrossFit journey at 6S in March 2018 (almost a year ago already?!).
I started CrossFit and Powerlifting at the same time. I had been looking for a way to get fit and was sick of doing all the at-home fad workout programs. I was looking for something that I would actually enjoy doing – to make working out a hobby and not a chore. Hector convinced me to come to a trial class for powerlifting and got roped into trying CrossFit too and fell in love with both!
What’s your favorite music to workout to?
Depends on the day and depends on the workout! If we are lifting heavy, I need some 80s/90s bops and/or rock. If we are doing burpees (which I never hope we are), I need something upbeat to keep me motivated!
What is your proudest CF/PL moment?
Definitely my ‘pause’ deadlift PR at the mock meet last year! No better feeling than conquering a weight you didn’t think you could get off the ground – especially if it was a struggle!
My confidence! I’m no longer afraid to fail or step outside my comfort zone. Although it feels like I’ll always be nervous when it comes to competing, I never thought I would actually be doing it and now I’m prepping for my first powerlifting meet! I am also very thankful for the community at 6S! I’ve met so many amazing people and made so many good friends – I never expected that to happen at a gym!
Other than CrossFit/Powerlifting, what do you do for fun?
I’m happiest on a patio or by the water (or both), hanging out with my friends and family and recently I’ve gotten into cooking and experimenting with recipes! Apart from that, I’m an avid online shopper and have recently been spending lots of time decorating our new apartment!
What was the best advice you were ever given?
Always take advantage of the time that you have with your loved ones – ask them questions!
At which store would you like to max-out your credit card?
Right now, it would be lululemon! Never enough gym clothes!
She’s the Man – because women can do anything that men can do!
What’s the strangest talent you have?
I’m a bit of a pinball wizard. I grew up with one in my basement so I had a lot of practice!
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
- Visit an elephant sanctuary and spend a day hanging out with them
- Start my own business (just waiting for that brilliant idea to hit me!)
- And long list of travel destinations to work through!
If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?
Teleportation – think of all the last minute vacays! You could live anywhere in the world and avoid the commute!
Are you a dog person or cat person?
Dog! I can’t help but point out every single one I see on the street: “That’s a good dog!”
