Tell us about yourself
I was a typical nerdy kid in high school and even in university. I had terrible eating habits back then and had packed away quite a few pounds on my 5’8” frame. Then one year during the summer I visited my grandma and she took the opportunity (as family always does) to tell me how well I was doing in life but that I needed to lose a few!
That advice stuck and when I got back home I gave myself completely to fitness. I hired a personal trainer and lost 40lbs. That was 17 years ago and I’ve never looked back but that overweight kid never really disappears from your head! What has also happened though is that I’ve ingrained the need to be healthy in myself. So finding CrossFit was just perfect to take my training to the next level.

How long have you been doing CrossFit? At CF6S?
I’ve been with CF6S since March 2017. About 9 months and it’s my first time doing CrossFit.

Why did you start CrossFit?
I had wanted to try CrossFit for a long time. When I found out about CF6S I decided to do the free class on Sunday. Once I did it I was hooked and the rest they say is history!

What’s your favorite music to work out to?
My taste is eclectic. Anything from Kanye to Taylor Swift and everything in between!

What is your proudest CF moment?
There are a couple! Deadlifting 235lbs for the first time and learning how to do kipping TTB and kipping pullups

What impact has CF6S had on your life inside and outside the gym?
The first and most important thing that has happened is that I understand my capabilities so much more. Before CrossFit I worked out on my own and sometimes with a trainer. I didn’t know that I could deadlift 235# or that I could even do a snatch!
I’ve gotten more confident (not that I need any more confidence!) and smarter about listening to my body.

For someone just starting at CF6S, what advice would you give them?
Don’t have preconceived notions of what CrossFit is and what it isn’t. It’s a very inclusive and scalable workout. You get a lot of support from the coaches because they spend time with you at every class personalizing their advice for maximum benefit to you

What’s your biggest CF goal right now? How close are you?
I’m close to mastering the butterfly pullup. That’s my next goal!

Who inspires you?
I’ve a mentor who has guided me through some very good and bad times in my personal and work life. I look up to her and use her life and career as a model for my own.

How do you explain CrossFit to people who have never done it?
It’s a way of life. Itis friendship, it is community, and it’s loads of fun!

If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?
Control the weather!

What’s the strangest talent you have?
It’s not meant to be put down on paper!
