Athlete of the Month: Silvia Mauser

Silvia has been a member with 6S Fitness+ since January, and has been a wonderful addition to our 6S community! She is consisently showing up to her workouts, putting in the hard work with enthusiasm, and is an absolute pleasure to coach! Silvia recently joined the Powerlifting crew where we know she will bring the same effort and enjoyment she already added to the 6SFit classes. We are so proud of all Silvia has accomplished so far and we look forward to her continued success!

Read more about Silvia below and give her a high five or fist bump next time you see her in class!

Tell us about yourself.

I am a crazy cat lady. I have two cats and I volunteer with Toronto Cat Rescue by fostering cats or kittens on occasion. I’m an engineer and just finished my MBA this year. Right now I’m in the middle of finding a new career so if anyone has any leads let me know 😁

What is one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

I have owned and rode a motorcycle for a very brief period of time. I kinda chickened out quick 😅

How long have you been doing [Functional Fitness]? At 6S?

I’ve done functional fitness/CrossFit since about 2017, but my original gym closed down during covid. I joined 6S because I was invited by my classmate Byron back in January. So glad I took him up on the offer. I joined a week before gyms opened up again and I can’t believe how far I’ve come in the past 6 months.

What is your favourite music to workout to?

I have a very specific playlist and it’s all 90s alt rock, hip hop and pop. (Lotsa Britney 😁)

What is your proudest 6S moment?

My proudest 6S moment was hitting a new deadlift PR that broke my pre-covid record (235lb to 255lb)

What impact has 6S had on your life inside and outside the gym?

6S fitness has shown me I’m much stronger than I think, and that has helped me build confidence in a lot of aspects of my life

For someone just starting at 6S, what advice would you give them?

For anyone having doubts, I’d encourage them to try one class to get a feel for the community. The community is so friendly and welcoming that it makes going to the gym not feel like a chore.

What’s your biggest health & fitness goal right now? How close are you?

My biggest goal is to get back to precovid weight. I’m about a third of the way there 😁

Other than 6S, what do you do for fun?

I have picked up running again! It’s slow going because of shin splints but I have a 10k race scheduled for September.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Best advice: “It’s a marathon, not a sprint”. Keeps me motivated even on days where I don’t feel like I’m progressing towards my goals.

What book are you reading right now?

I started reading The Sirens of Titans by Kurt Vonnegut. I’m a big sci-fi nerd

At which store would you like to max-out your credit card?

I would max out my money at Nike. Actually I might have done that already.

What’s the strangest talent you have?

Cat whisperer. Even the ferals learn to trust me 😁

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

My bucket list is mostly travel. I want to go to French wine country, Iran (or the Middle East in general) and one day doing an unassisted pull up!!! One day…

Netflix or book recommendation?

I recommend The Ozarks

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Anywhere in the world? A fully detached house in Toronto is my dream. Dream big!! Lol
