Tell us about yourselves.
Alex and I have been together for over 21 years (married for 16 years). We live in the east end of Leslieville and just recently bought a house. We both work in marketing, and I actually hired Alex for her first Graphic Design job.
What is one thing people may be surprised to learn about you two?
We love to travel. Alex has been to 67 countries and I’m trying to catch up at 46.
How long have both of you been doing Functional Fitness? At 6S?
We have been doing functional fitness for about 8 years, going on 3 years this summer at 6S.
Why did you start functional fitness training?
I dragged Alex (kicking and screaming) to a CrossFit class because I was bored of my current routine & was looking for something that would be more of a challenge. Alex found it very empowering and now she just can’t get enough. We motivate each other to keep getting better even as we’re getting older.
Do either of you have favourite music to workout to?
What is your proudest 6S moment?
Even as we’re getting older we keep hitting PRs, improving our skills and lifting heavier, thanks to the great coaching at 6S!
What impact has 6S had on your life inside and outside the gym?
We’ve made new friends (the 5:30 crew!), and we are getting healthier everyday so we can be ready for challenges like hiking in Nepal (our next trip we think!).
For someone just starting at 6S, what advice would you give them?
Don’t be intimidated, everything can be scaled and the atmosphere is very encouraging. Keep at it!
What’s your biggest health & fitness goal right now? How close are you?
We are both trying to improve our gymnastic skills and are slowly getting better.
Other than 6S, what do you two do for fun?
Travel, cooking, listening to music, indoor rock climbing
Who inspires you?
Oliver says Alex. Alex says Oliver. And Sam Briggs.
What are three things still left on your bucket list?
Hitting 100 countries… together.
Favourite Toronto restaurant and why?
Anything by the Han Brothers – great food (Korean Mash-up) in unique locations. Neon Tiger and Han Moto are two we like a lot.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
We love it here… except in winter. We wouldn’t be averse to spending half the year in Spain (Oliver) or South-east Asia (Alex).
