Here is Emilia’s story:
Hello! My name is Emilia, aka ‘the new kid on the block’ and I am thrilled to be able to introduce myself and share a little bit more about my story!
I’ve always had a passion for the arts, more specifically the performing arts. Throughout my high school experience I split my time between sports and the performing arts which allowed me to explore my many interests and widen my horizons for what my post secondary journey was going to look like.
Around the transitionary period between elementary and high school, I began to grow and develop my skills as a dancer. This meant enrolling at studios with high performance level training and streamlining programming into competition based performance. Rapidly, dance became a significant part of my life and really informed the relationship I began to have with my body, both at the time and as I grew older. My biggest takeaway from that interval of my life was understanding the nuances and constant ebbs and flow of my lifelong health and fitness journey.
My post secondary passage started at The American Academy of Dramatic Arts where I received classical training in acting, dance and singing. After the two year program came to its natural close earning me an Associates of Arts, I, candidly speaking, began to crave more.
Just prior to graduation, I began to fill out applications for Bachelor programs on the east coast beginning that same school year in the fall. To my surprise, I was accepted into New York University Tisch’s School of the Arts as a student of the drama department, and thus set in motion the next chapter of my performing arts career. Having the chance to learn and study under some of the most talented professors I have come to know and appreciate in arguably two of the world’s largest mecca’s for the entertainment industry importantly shaped the way I move through the world now as an artist.
At this point in my life’s journey, the connection I had to my health and fitness really shifted into the background and had a less prominent role compared to that of my childhood. Naturally, I grew curious as to when I would make any sort of return or why I had chosen to take a step back in the first place – was it subconscious? I was met with radio silence on the other end of my questions, my priorities had shifted and I was entering into a state of “ebb” if you will.
Finally leaving the States, and returning to Canada brought about a new era, one filled with questions regarding unfulfilled interests and or forgotten ones. While my experience at school was nothing short of enlightening, I found myself still feeling a bit out of my depth when it came to understanding my positionality in the entertainment business.
I spent some time with a company where my job was to act as one of many inbound sales agents, teaching me the basics of running and sustaining a reliable brand. After some time away and decompression from things alike, the attraction I had for visual arts began to sprout and blossom. Having partial exposure to this medium while enrolled in university, the instinct I had to explore it further and see the possibilities of this passion completely took over. As life would have it, I stumbled across an online program (based in NYC) offering live online classes for beginners, experts and everyone in between. I signed up for two certificate granting programs with a focus in graphic design and video editing.
The experience allowed me to diversify my artistic tool kit and place myself in a position where I was once again a student, something that innately feels like home.
Coming now to the present day, I am immensely appreciative for the varied background I have been able to acquire. It keeps me on my toes and always excited for the future. And most importantly, through the ups and downs of my existence I have seen how my state of being can influence my attention to my own health and fitness, for better or for worse. With that being said, I am proud to share that my link to this fabulous expedition begins again.
This time with a renewed focus, ready to incorporate the duo in a way that makes sense for right now and where I’m at, and is based in pleasure rather than negativity and intimidation.
