Athlete of the Month: Devon Romero

Devon is one of the most humble and friendliest guys you will ever meet! Do not be fooled by his competitive nature … Devon is a big teddy bear at heart and will always throw you a smile and high five! He is an inspiration to us all and a testament of what hard work, commitment, dedication & grit looks like. Devon is always eager to learn and participate in community events inside and outside the gym. Not to mention he has been crushing his nutrition and lifting PRs, despite having an unpredictable travel schedule sometimes. We are beyond blessed to have Devon in our 6s family & we cannot wait to see what the next year will bring!

Tell us about yourself.

I am a curious, driven, proud Trinidadian who is passionate about life and my one fury son – Dembe.

What is one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

How avid a reader I am. Back to being curious I am on a quest for development and love learning new things – whether the latest thought leadership book or a good old – who done it spy novel.

How long have you been doing Functional Fitness? At 6S?

For about a year and five months

Why did you start functional fitness training?

Seems like forever- Fitness has always been a passion – whether it was lifting heavy iron or Cross fit in Trinidad- I am a firm believer in discipline and fitness is one manifestation of this. It’s my version of balance,

What is your favorite music to workout to?

EDM or Soca Music

What is your favorite workout?

Anything that I can beat Vince or JP at !

What is your proudest 6S moment?

My first set of 30 Double Unders

What impact has 6S had on your life inside and outside the gym?

I am new to Canada and I will always value the speed with which 6S welcomed me into their family. This has become a home away from home- the Team took me in, with legendary hospitality

For someone just starting at 6S, what advice would you give them?

Lean in – the team here are genuinely supportive and seeking your best interest- build community and stick with it

What’s your biggest health & fitness goal right now? How close are you?

Not as close as I would like- work and travel disrupts the routine on occasion – but I am keen on getting back to the routine- so stay woke JP and Vince !!!

Other than 6S, what do you do for fun?

Love traveling – always seeking out new adventures

Who inspires you?

Anyone who marches to their drum- The world needs to celebrate individuality and self awareness more- its actually one thing that I appreciate about Canada – the fact that as a society we don’t rush to put people in a box- I am inspired by those pursuing their own truth on this quest called life.

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

Do a triathlon, climb Mount Kilimanjaro, being always content with the present moment

If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?

Power to make things like burpees and the echo bike disappear !!!

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Having recently migrated – and learnt that home is really where your heart is. So I am keeping an open mind and embracing the opportunities as they come.
