Athlete of the Month: Chris Yu

Chris joined 6S in October 2021, and has been a welcome addition to the 6S fam ever since! Not only does he work hard in the 6SFit classes, Chris is also testing his strength in Powerlifting. In addition to getting stronger, he has found the training to be a great outlet for stress and mental health. Chris even (reluctantly!) joined the Underground Throwdown this year and enjoyed every minute! We are so thrilled to have Chris’s energy, enthusiasm, and inspirational work ethic as part of the 6S community and are so excited to see what he accomplishes next. Keep up the awesome work Chris!

Tell us about yourself.

I live with my little puppy Emma, work in health care, and enjoy travelling the world every chance I get. My goal is to hit 30 new cities in my 30’s. I also love checking out music festivals with my friends!

What is one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

I’ve never been to Asia! It’s definitely on my list for next year.

How long have you been doing Functional Fitness and Powerlifting? At 6S?

Functional fitness and powerlifting for 5-6 years now, and at 6S for two of them.

Why did you start Functional Fitness and Powerlifting training?

I wanted to lift heavy things and to get fit. It’s also done wonders for my mental health and a great outlet for stress  Also, Pride is always right around the corner!

What is your proudest 6S moment?

Participating in the Underground Throwdown. I wasn’t sure about it at first but was basically forced into it and enjoyed every minute!

What impact has 6S had on your life inside and outside the gym?

Inside the gym: I lift heavier and more importantly made a bunch of new friends. Outside the gym, I feel more confident, less stressed, and am more motivated to eat well to maximize my gains.

For someone just starting at 6S, what advice would you give them?

Just say yes, and consistency is key! Keep pushing yourself to get a little better every week. Even if you aren’t feeling 100%, just showing up and moving helps.

What’s your biggest health & fitness goal right now? How close are you?

Maintain my bulk and lose some more fat. I want my 6 pack! I have maybe 4.

Other than 6S, what do you do for fun?

I watch a ton of trash / reality TV.

What was the best advice you were ever given?

“Take chances, make mistakes, and get messy!”

Who inspires you?

Everyone at 6S! Especially people who choose to do the echo bike by choice.

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

1) Travel travel travel

2) Tomorrowland

3) Retire

If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?


If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Probably somewhere in Europe. The culture is so much more relaxed and laid back. People there seem to work to live, not live to work.
