Athlete of the Month: Tina Seifert

Tina joined 6S in 2020 and has been a wonderful addition to the community ever since! Tina inspires everyone around her with her hard work and dedication. She is a constant source of positivity and encouragement in the classes, and always brings an uplifting energy every time she walks in the door. We are so lucky to have Tina, and her puppy Charlie, as part of the 6S fam and can’t wait to see all that she accomplishes next!

Tell us about yourself.

I moved to Canada after university, just to get work experience in another country. I was supposed to be here for one year. I never looked back and have been here for almost 17 years now.

What is one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

Christmas is my favourite time of the year. Every year, I make my own Christmas cards.

How long have you been doing Functional Fitness? At 6S?

I have been doing functional fitness for about 5 years, and joined 6S in the early stages of the pandemic – in June 2020.

Why did you start functional fitness training?

I’ve been actively involved in sports my entire life and I love trying new things/sports. I started functional fitness training to be strong, healthy and well-rounded in my athletic ability so that I can try everything out there until I am super-old. 🙂

(It also helps carry lots of shopping bags and minimize the trips unloading the car. Although strengths training doesn’t always pay off when I am trying to open jars (insert eye roll emoji here)).

What is your favorite music to workout to?

Oh, I am a big country music fan!

What is your favorite workout?

Angie

(generally, I love the long grinders)

What is your proudest 6S moment?

Getting my first handstand pushup.

What impact has 6S had on your life inside and outside the gym?

I made some great friends that I love seeing outside the gym as much as inside the gym. I am feeling strong and healthy, ready to take on whatever life throws at me.

For someone just starting at 6S, what advice would you give them?

You don’t have to be fit to start. 6S is such a fantastic community and everyone is welcomed with open arms no matter what background, size, fitness level or skills. So all you have to do is show up and embrace it.

What’s your biggest health & fitness goal right now? How close are you?

Staying consistent with my workouts, getting stronger in general and improving my gymnastics skills.

I would like to PR my DL to double-body weight, and I am 30lbs away from that goal.

Other than 6S, what do you do for fun?

I love spending time outdoors. So any chance I get, you will find me outside the city. My happy place is the mountains, hiking and backpacking.

We also recently got a puppy, and I am excited to have a hiking and running-buddy. 🙂

What was the best advice you were ever given?

Never stop learning and growing as a person. It’s not about being the best, it’s about being better than you were yesterday.

What’s the strangest talent you have?

Uhooooo. Hmmmmmmmm.  I am very ordinary with no special talents, I am afraid.

Here are some fun facts though, since I don’t have a special talent:

  • I was once asked to be in a wine advertisement with my best friend (they didn’t have to work hard to convince us!) :p
  • I love burpees.
  • I trained to be a guide for visually impaired triathletes.

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

Climb a big mountain.

See the northern lights.

Dive at the Great Barrier Reef.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Canada, BC. I love the mountains and, one day, would love to live close to them.
