Athlete of the Month: Vivek Sankaralingam

Vivek has been a member of the 6S since February 2020. He is an enthusiastic participant in the 6S classes and a supportive and active member of the 6S community. He played a key role with his team at the April Underground Throwdown, and most recently crushed it at Hank’s Liftoff powerlifting competition! Vivek continues to inspire us with his dedication and hard work, and we can’t wait to see what he accomplishes next!

What is one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

I hate peanut butter.

How long have you been doing Functional Fitness? At 6S?

I originally joined in Feb 2020, but have been active since the reopening.

Why did you start functional fitness training?

I wanted to be more active coming out of the winter.

What is your proudest 6S moment?

Finally getting double unders.

What impact has 6S had on your life inside and outside the gym?

The best part of 6s has been the people you meet. Outside, I can feel the tangible difference the training has made, be it the fit of my clothes or even just my overall cardio.

For someone just starting at 6S, what advice would you give them?

I’d tell them to leave the ego at the door – can be very hard at the beginning when you see others around you going faster and lifting heavier weights. All the coaches really helped me push my limits in a progressive, sustainable manner which has shown in the results, but it requires patience.

What’s your biggest health & fitness goal right now? How close are you?

Trying to lose 30 pounds by next summer. 12 down, 18 to go.

Other than 6S, what do you do for fun?

Binge watch old tv comedies (British tv shows in particular).

What was the best advice you were ever given?

This too shall pass.

What book are you reading right now?

Think again by Adam Grant.

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

Bungee jump, scuba diving and go to every continent at least once.

If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?

Time travel.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Singapore – great city, nice beaches and summer all year around.
