September Athlete of the Month: Suruchi Mistry

Congratulations to our September Athlete of the Month – Suruchi Mistry!

Suruchi joined 6S just over 1 year ago and ever since, she has been a ray of sunshine and an absolute rockstar! Suruchi started off in the group classes and recently transitioned to 1-on-1 training with Coach Alysha to build back the basics and focus on building up her strength and confidence after COVID and other obstacles.

Suruchi shows up to every session with a smile on her face and a determination to continue working towards her goals.

We’re so fortunate to have Suruchi in our family & we can’t wait to see what this next year brings!

Tell us about yourself

I lived in the UK and was offered the opportunity to move to Toronto with my job which came at the best time as I was going through a divorce and it felt like a fresh start. I’d never been to Canada when I accepted the move and figured it would be a great adventure for me and my cat. My first trip here was in January 2019, during the polar vortex – it was definitely an eye opening experience, I don’t think I’ve ever felt cold like that!

What is one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

Canada is the fourth country I have lived in. Apart from the UK, I’ve also lived in Australia and the US, though it is safe to say Toronto is home now.

What is your proudest 6S moment?

When I beat my PB in deadlifts, it was a great feeling, especially knowing I could have gone heavier.

What impact has 6S had on your life inside and outside the gym?

It’s been amazing, I’ve gained confidence in lifting barbells and as well as trusting myself to push harder. I’ve also met some amazing people through the gym.

What’s your biggest goal right now? How close are you?

Learning to do double unders/other jumps with the skipping rope. I’ve only just started but am slowly getting the hang of some of the various jumps. Unfortunately, double unders and alternate feet still allude me!

What do you do for fun?

I love to read, am definitely a voracious reader, I read 40 books last year and really want to beat that number this year! Also love to eat! I have been experimenting more with cooking which has been fun.

Who inspires you?

My younger siblings, they have been through so much at such a young age and still push themselves to do better.

You are stranded on a desert island and can only bring one item with you. What would it be?

My kindle, it has lots of books on there!

What was your favorite TV show growing up? Why?

Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Charmed, I loved the idea of having magical powers. I also liked the ‘crime fighting’ element of Charmed.

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

Visiting every province in Canada, go to Hawaii, get my Canadian citizenship.

If you could have any one superpower, which would you choose?

Ability to fly, it would be great to be able to fly to somewhere new on a whim!
