Athlete of the Month: Andrew Halteh

Andrew has been crushing his workouts since 2019, doing functional fitness for 2.5 years now. Not only does he try to get to class early to get an assault bike, he does his best to make classes 4 to 5 times a week!

When not at work as a lawyer, or in class, Andrew enjoys exploring the city, outdoor concerts/festivals, and trying new restaurants!

Having played foorball in high school and university, Andrew has always been an active person, and loves the competitive nature and comradery of functional fitness!

We are so glad to have Andrew as a part of the 6S community!

Tell us about yourself.

In 2019 I moved to the city close to 6S.  I opened my own law practice in November 2020.  That has taken up a lot of my time, but I do my best to make to class 4 to 5 times a week.  When I’m not at work or in class, I enjoy exploring the city, outdoor concerts/festivals and trying new restaurants.

What is one thing people may be surprised to learn about you?

I try to get to class extra early to get an assault bike.

How long have you been doing [Functional Fitness]? At 6S?

About 2.5 years at 6S now with Covid totally interrupting several times.

Why did you start [functional fitness] training?

I have always been physically active.  I played football in high school and university.  Functional fitness has kind of been a continuation of that.  I love the competitive nature and comradery.

What is your proudest 6S moment?

Completing the Nutrition Challenge at 6S in February 2020 and competing in the Underground Throwdown.

What impact has 6S had on your life inside and outside the gym?

A very positive one!  It helps me organize my day better. I leave work on time to make it to class.  Stay on top of my nutrition. I have also met so many amazing people here and have made a lot of new friends.

For someone just starting at 6S, what advice would you give them?

Take it slow! Do not get frustrated with movements you can’t do.  Give it time.  You don’t always have to go RX.  Don’t come out of that gate too fast on workouts (I’m still learning this!).

What’s your biggest health & fitness goal right now? How close are you?

I am working on building more muscle.  I have recently met with nutritionist Alysha.  I found out that I was not eating enough or the right food before a workout.  Still far away from my goal but certainly on the right track.

Other than 6S, what do you do for fun?

Anything outdoors.  Recently got into cycling.  I’m hoping to go on much longer rides this summer.

Who inspires you?

My favourite workout buddy, my wife Salpi!

At which store would you like to max-out your credit card?

Does Costco count?  Probably Lululemon.  If it doesn’t stretch, I’m not wearing it!

What’s the strangest talent you have?

Does an endless supply of dad jokes count?

What are three things still left on your bucket list?

 Travel more and work less.

Favourite Toronto restaurant and why?

If I’m not trying to stay healthy, Descendants Pizza.

If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Toronto! Because that’s where 6S is.  Maybe a beach somewhere during the winter.
